Child Dental Benefits Schedule

child dental benefits schedule

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) was established by the Australian Government in 2014 to ensure that all children nationwide can access the dental care they require. Although there were concerns about the future of the CDBS at one stage, it continues to be available for eligible families today.

Who Is Eligible?

Your child qualifies for the CDBS if they meet all of the following criteria:

  • They are eligible for Medicare.
  • They are aged between 0 and 17 years for at least one day during the calendar year.
  • You or your child receive an eligible payment, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A, at least once within that calendar year.

To determine what constitutes an eligible payment, visit the Service Australia website.

What Does It Cover?

The CDBS covers up to $1,132 over two calendar years for basic dental services. The services included are:

  • Check-ups
  • X-rays
  • Cleaning
  • Fissure sealing
  • Fillings
  • Root canals
  • Extractions
  • And more

Please be aware that the CDBS does not cover orthodontic or cosmetic dental procedures, nor does it include any dental services provided in a hospital setting.

To Check Your Child’s Eligibility

There are three ways to find out if your child is eligible:

  • Check your Medicare online account through myGov.
  • Call the Medicare program line on 132 011.
  • Call Dental On Cue at (03) 9853 2044. A parent can provide us with the child’s name, birth date and Medicare number, and we can check through Services Australia’s PRODA website.
