The Australian Dental Association recommends dental checkups twice a year so your dentist can spot any developing dental problems.
We believe that prevention is the key to maintaining a healthy smile. Regular dental check-ups and thorough dental examinations are essential to your oral health routine. Our experienced team is dedicated to ensuring your teeth and gums remain in excellent condition, helping you avoid potential issues down the line.
What is a Dental Check-Up?
A dental check-up is a routine appointment that allows our skilled dentists to assess your oral health. During this visit, we’ll comprehensively evaluate your teeth, gums, and overall mouth. This process typically includes:
- Periodontal screening for gum disease.
- Screening for dental cavities.
- Deterioration of previous dental work.
- Oral cancer screening.
- TMJ and bite analysis.
- Cleaning of plaque and calculus (tartar) buildup is sometimes possible at checkups.
- Digital dental x-rays (only when needed).
- Fluoride treatments help prevent tooth decay (only when needed).
- If a cavity is found during a checkup, our dentist will usually schedule a second appointment to fill it before it becomes a more severe problem.
Why Are Dental Check-Ups Important?
Regular dental check-ups are crucial for several reasons:
- Early Detection: Many dental problems, such as cavities and gum disease, can have no noticeable symptoms. Regular check-ups allow for early detection, making treatment easier and less costly.
- Preventive Care: Our team provides valuable advice on proper brushing and flossing techniques, dietary choices, and other preventive measures to help you maintain optimal oral health.
- Personalised Treatment Plans: Based on your individual needs, we can develop a tailored treatment plan that addresses any existing issues and promotes long-term health.
- Maintaining a Healthy Smile: Regular visits to the dentist help keep your smile bright and healthy, boosting your confidence and overall well-being.
How Often Should You Have a Dental Check-Up?
We generally recommend you schedule a dental check-up every six months. However, depending on your oral health needs, your dentist may suggest more frequent visits. Age, dental history, and lifestyle can influence how often you should see us.
